mention your name and i’m gone again, ohhhh i’m gone again.

I learned all my most important first lessons about travel, fine cuisine, culture, markets, silver jewelry and fabrics from my amazing, talented artistic beautiful Mother Lois Potthoff Elder. She exuded style, grace and beauty in all she did. She was a gifted watercolor artist and had a deep appreciation for the art of Spain and Mexico, India and Thailand. In Bangkok our family spent our entire Sundays at Snam Luang weekend market. Hunting for treasures, admiring an infinite variety of creativity in wood, textile, precious metals, Thai Silks, spices and munching our way though acres of food stalls. Toasted coconut treats, grilled pineapple, mee Krob . Toasted peanut thingies! Aside from the beaches of southern Thailand, these were my favorite memories of our family. Everyone going their own way for hours, then reconnecting off and on all day. What few gifts I possess as a human being I Lay them all at her feet.

Missing her deeply today.

Kudos!! For my amazing Mother Lois. My father Art always called her “Lady” and she always called him “Man” .. I know it could not have been easy being a Navy Wife with 5 kids. but you wanted to travel the world.. and that is exactly what we did! You were in charge and let everyone know it. Occasionally, Art would come home on leave from the ship, or some tour of duty abroad and give you serious “back up”. In Spain and France you would pack up the Peugeot and we would set out on another adventure. Driving to wherever the next port of call was for the USS Springfield. Flagship of the 6th fleet. Such great times we all had! I loved watching you paint! Such great Art genes flowed through you to all your children, and now mine as well! Thanks for all your hard work. I could not imagine or want it to have unfolded any other way!

Irene Byers was never my teacher, she was our neighbor Irene, Becky’s mom, and a teacher, but never my teacher. And, that was probably for the best. Irene was a very nice lady, the boys all liked her. She was attractive, well dressed, and very well spoken. Becky reminds me a lot of her mom.  I mostly remember her as being one of my Mom’s friends, and she did not have many. Irene and my mom had what I called the afternoon nap club. They would both have lunch by the Honeywell Court pool, accompanied by a big frosty Singha, and the would both sleep under the cabana.  She was also, like Becky, a great fashion follower; Take a look at the old photos and you will see that the most fashionably dressed was always Irene.

Dear ISB Community,

With deep sadness we share the news that Khun Tina Ratanavaree has passed away. Tina was our beloved ES secretary and worked at ISB for over 30 years. She had been on medical leave for over a year and the entire ISB community missed her during her absence.

Khun Tina is well known in the ES for her constant smile, kind heart, and her love for all people. She enjoyed playing music, learning languages and was always curious about other cultures. She was a fast friend to everyone who met her; adults and children alike.

Her son let us know that she passed away peacefully on November 9th with her family by her side. He also expressed gratitude for all of the love that ISB has shown her over the years.

The memorial service is being held each day at St. Louise Marie de Montfort Church, Bang Phai Sub-district, Bang Khae District, Bangkok at 7:00 pm. The last day of the memorial service will be on November 13, 2019. The funeral will be held at Santikham Cemetery, Sam Phran District, Na Khon Pathom Province after the final memorial service on
14 November.

Tina Ratanavaree was a very special presence at ISB and will be missed dearly. We send our sincerest condolences to her family and friends.

Hey Dave,

It was ether 71 or 72 that Perry died when the pilot light in the gas water heater in his bathroom had gone out and he suffocated . He has a brother that is on the alumni site I had talked to once about getting some pictures, he said he would look but never got back to me. There is a year book picture in the ’71 Erawan at Bangsue.

William “Bill” Henry Napier Ellis, Jr., 66, passed away on Sept. 7, 2016, at the Medical University of SC in Charleston, after an extended illness. The memorial service will occur on Friday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal Markley Chapel, 10 N. Church St., in downtown Greenville, SC. A visitation reception will follow the service in the McKissick Room.

A Celebration of Life Marina Potluck will be held to honor Bill at the Charleston City Marina Megadock, 17 Lockwood Dr., in Charleston, SC, on Monday, Sept. 19, from 6-8 p.m. Shelley Waters will perform.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made payable to Charleston Transplant Home and sent to P.O Box 1126, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29465. Or, donations may be made to the MUSC Living Donor Institute, payable to MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee Street – MSC450, Charleston, SC 29425.

Bill was born in Fort Eustis, Va., on Nov. 14, 1949, the oldest son of William Henry Napier “Nap” Ellis and Frances Elisabeth “Libby” Woodward Ellis. As the son of a career Army officer, he moved frequently with his family starting in Alaska (before it was a state), Knoxville, TN; Long Island, NY; Okinawa, Japan; Atlanta, Ga.; and back to Virginia.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Kristopher James Dunn, loving son and brother, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kristopher was born April 6, 1970 in Payson, Utah to Ronald James and Patricia Prince Dunn. He graduated from high school in Bangkok, Thailand and attended the University of Utah. Kristopher was an artist and especially loved stained glass. He also enjoyed hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, the outdoors, and his cats. His employment as a Medical Research Assistant was his favorite and he found much satisfaction in that work. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kristopher served in the Raleigh North Carolina Mission. He loved his family and friends dearly.

Kristopher is survived by his parents, Ron and Patty Dunn; siblings, Aimee (Gardner) Kelly, Kelly (Mike) Hardy, David (Julie) Dunn, Cynthia (Joseph) Johnson, and Kimberly (Zac) Davis. He also leaves behind his Grandpa, James W. Dunn and nieces and nephews who love him. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at the Benjamin Cemetery, 7400 South 3200 West, Benjamin, Utah.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Bishop David S. Nielson, Rick V. Heninger, Rita Divine, his ward members and neighbors, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Absolute Compassion Hospice and Janel Larsen, RN.
