Mary Hensley ~ Class of 1978

Departed ~ 11/5/19

Obituary

On 5 November 2019 Kathy passed away. She is with Love, free, at peace and at Home. She was my love and companion for over 38 years, my wife and mother of my children for over 30 years, my favorite grandmother for over 6 years. I am so thankful for every moment with her; the great and the not so great.

Kathy was preceded Home by her father, LTC Ret. James Hensley and mother, Sally, and grandson, Joshua. Kathy loved being a nurse because she loved caring for people. Caring was her love language. She was a caregiver who devoted her life to others. She was a woman in love with Jesus first, her family second, her country third and all of humanity. She strove to see the best in a fallen people while holding fast to a belief in Father’s plan for all. She raised two wonderful children who are well rounded, well- grounded and destined for great things of their own. Now those children have families of their own. Great families that Kathy cared for with a ferocious love of motherhood.

I am eternally grateful for just one day with Kathy in my life, more so for the nearly four decades together. She ran her race so very well. Rest well.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, November 7 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 EST on Friday, November 8 in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

John Cory Ahrens ~ Class of 1970

John Ahrens ~ Class of 1970

Departed ~ 8/17/2019

Lovingly written by John’s sister Beth Ahrens Kley, Class of 1971.

The definition of “surreal” is “unreal, unearthly, dreamlike”. John Cory Ahrens passed away on Saturday 8/17, age 67, after a brave fight with a deadly form of brain cancer. A man who only half a year ago on March 1 celebrated mom’s 91st birthday with the family at the Crow’s Nest restaurant with a view of the ocean, is now no longer with us. How can a healthy person now be gone, where one can only see him, touch him now, in the flatness of a photograph, no longer hear his sardonic comments or hike with him through the forests of the Sierras? Who visited mom regularly, laying on her couch with his feet hanging over the side, playing Sinatra on his phone for her which made mom so happy?

He never wavered in the battle, never indulged in self-pity or asked why me. He accepted the fate with heroism, as did the family who helped him get through this ordeal in the comfort of his home. It was a drastically strong downward trajectory, having experienced loss of some mobility and some speech even before surgery, radiation and one round of chemo. His situation seriously degenerated with a bout of seizures. Soon after his wife set up the family home to bring him to a place of comfort. There he had 24 hour care, the decision to stop chemo was made and soon thereafter hospice was brought in.

Departed ~ 5/30/2019

Just learned of the death on May 30, 2019 of Gene Nelson who taught Vocal Music at the International School Bangkok during the mid-1980s.

Here’s what I wrote to his wife, Dorie, who taught in the ISB Elementary School:

So very sorry to hear of Gene’s death, dear Dorie. He was a magnificent human being, bringing joy, laughter and the feeling of success and achievement through music and acting. Both Eleanor and I have been blessed to have worked with him as students at Fort Vancouver High School and then again as educational colleagues at the International School Bangkok.
Thank you for sharing him with us. Condolences to you and your entire family.

Friends and former students of Elisabeth Inannelli,

Sadly, Elizabeth Iannelli passed away on Monday of this week. She had valiantly overcome cancer twice before, but this time she succumbed to this dreadful disease. She leaves behind her loving husband Piero, devoted sons Fabio (’92) and Marco (’94), both ISB graduates, and adorable grandchildren. Elizabeth was a fiercely loyal friend with unwavering determination, enormous energy and an ‘I can do’ attitude. She could be both an elegant lady and a fearless trucker when it served her purposes such as a gala dinner at the Ritz or a home renovation.

After retiring from ISB as a dedicated French teacher, Elisabeth continued to be closely connected to Thailand often vacationing with family and friends at her Golden Buddha island bungalow in Khao Lak. Always a globe trotter, she will be laid to rest on Rome with a second ceremony in her hometown in France. The tiny woman had a huge heart. Her indomitable spirit will live on in the many lives she has touched. May she Rest In Peace.

[A special thank you to my good friend Barbara Kalis for communicating this sad news to Isb Alum]

Posted by Judi’s daughter Zoe:

Hello all of Judi Molthen Nelson ‘s facebook friends. I am posting on my mother’s wall to bring you the very tragic news of my mother’s passing.

For those of you that do not know, mom has been courageously battling cancer since April of last year. It pains me more than words can express to announce to you that on Friday at 8pm she drew her last breaths while Eric Nelson and I tried to provide as much comfort to her as we possibly could.

My mother is now and will always be my greatest hero. She possessed an astounding light within her spirit that touched so many of you. She will live forever in our hearts and memories.

In the coming weeks our family will be grieving and sharing memories of her and if you would like to share with us, or share here to her page, we welcome your stories and condolences. We are also requesting to see any and all pictures you might have so that we can add them to a slide show.

We are planning a gathering in her memory for sometime this week. When we have more details i will post here and all who are able are welcome to attend. We will be leaving her facebook online to act as a living memorial. Thank you to you all for filling my mother’s life with friendship and love.
