Obituary

Gerald Henri Carl, “Jerry”, age 74, died Friday, May 10, 2024, at his home.

GERALD HENRI CARL was born on August 20, 1949, in Ontario, Oregon, the son of the late William Edgar Carl and Vivian Adelle (McCracken) Carl. He was raised and received his education in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii, having been a graduate of the Kaneohe High School Class of 1967. He later attended the McEntray College Lebanon, Illinois, having received a bachelor’s degree in business.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Sue White in Sacramento, California on August 10, 1975, in Sacramento, California. Following their marriage, Jerry was career military, his assignments taking them around the world. In 1995, they moved to the Forest Grove community, where he had resided since.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, on March 20, 2024, in Forest Grove, Oregon, after celebrating over forty-eight years of marriage together.

He joined the United States Army on January 14, 1976. Jerry served for twenty years, until he received his honorable discharge in 1996 at the rank of master sergeant. He received several awards including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; the Joint Service Commendation Medal (2nd Award); the Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award); the Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award); the Joint Meritorious Unit Award; the Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award); the National Defense Service Medal and the Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon.

Jerry was a member of the American Legion Washington Post #2 in Forest Grove.

Among his special interests, he was very active in supporting the Wounded Warriors Project, as well as gentleman farmer, caring for his orchard of apples, pears and cherries.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Vivian Carl and his brother, Sam Carl.

Survivors include his four sons and daughters-in-law, Robby and Huachen Riley, of Carson City, Nevada, Jeff McCormick, of Oahu, Hawaii, William “Billy” Carl of Forest Grove, Oregon and Stuart and Veronica Carl, of Forest Grove, Oregon and his two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Sandi Carl, of West End, North Carolina and Tom and Pam Carl, of Austin, Texas.

Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Ashton Carl, Braden Carl and Addison Carl and several nieces and nephews.

Hi,

My name is Mark Strong, a graduate of the class of ’69. I just felt compelled to add to the stories of Korliss and Kandy Falk. Our respective families knew each other before coming to Bangkok. We all lived in Okinawa. I could tell a dozen stories to let all know how great the Falks were. The ones that strike closest have to do with typhoons striking the island. The Falks were military and had well built housing. We were not, so it was up in the air (almost literally). They would invite us over to stay until the storms passed. I can say I saw trash cans and cars flying down the roads on more than one occasion. Us kids would go out and try to skateboard uphill. One time the wind really picked up speed and the girls couldn’t walk against it! I was the only short and fat enough to make any progress against it. Now remember this is ~56 years ago so I may be exaggerating my contribution.

Korliss and Kandy were both kind, fun loving, and considerate human beings and I feel honored to have been able to call them friends.
