Maureen McLaughlin Guignon ~ Class of 1967

Departed January 9, 2017 ~ Complications related to Alzheimer’s disease

Maureen Ann McLaughlin Guignon For the first time in her life, Maureen Ann McLaughlin Guignon listened to her father. Unfortunately, she listened to his advice, “Don’t get old, Mo.”

At 67 years old, Maureen passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born December 18, 1949 in New Orleans to Captain Jack and Marjorie McLaughlin, Maureen lived an adventure filled childhood as a Navy brat with her three sisters, Patricia, Shawn and Mary Ellen. Maureen graduated from the International School of Bangkok in 1967 and briefly attended Marymount University. During her first year in college, she met the love of her life, Joseph Guignon, and together they continued their adventures around the world. Living in Germany, Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and many states around the United States, Maureen and Joe raised their three children in a warm and loving home. Maureen was extremely proud of her children, and her children will profoundly feel her loss. In 2011, Maureen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and participated in several drug trials in order to help future generations. After her diagnosis, Maureen and Joe continued their adventures, but closer to home, by volunteering for Honor Flight receptions, swimming, walking, and spending time with family. Maureen and Joe celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on December 22, 2016 in Fairfax, Virginia with their children.

 Maureen graduated from George Mason University, with her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Art History. Maureen taught at GMU as an Art History interim professor from 2000 to 2014. Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, Joe; children, Aimee, Shannon and Blythe; and three sisters, Patty, Shawn and Mary Ellen Reutinger (David).

A memorial service will be held at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Army Navy Club, Fairfax, Virginia.

To The ISB Beings Network,   Wesley Olsen class of 74, died from organ(s) failures in 2012, we only learned of your organization, recently. His family left Bangkok in late 1971 – – Port Washington NY. His friends at ISB were Kurt Sigmund, Peter Schramm, Phoebe Bradley, Pam Curtis, Carl Penuel.

Dene Dewey ~ Class of 1969

Dene Dewey Hill, 62, of Round Hill, VA passed away peacefully on September 19, 2013.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Chris King; daughter Melissa (Robert) Simpson of Woodbridge, VA; son Kenny (Joanna) Hill Jr of Hamilton, VA; three cherished granddaughters, Caroline, Lilian, and Willa; and one very large and spoiled black lab, Mac. She is also survived by two siblings, Shelley Sutton of Virginia Beach, VA and Tom Dewey of San Antonio, TX and six nephews, and seven nieces.

Dene worked at Friends of Children Charity in Darien, CT, Wage Radio in Leesburg, VA, and Martin’s Herand in Sterling, VA. She attended the International School of Bangkok and enjoyed being a member of the ISB Network, which let her keep in touch with others who grew up in military families in Thailand. She was an active member of the Unitarian Uni- versalist Church of Loudoun and a volunteer at the Loudoun Abused Woman’s Shelter. Her passions were her family, gardening, reading, camping, trips to the beach, local music, and dogs.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Loudoun (UUCL), 20460 Gleedsville Rd, Leesburg, VA 20175 on Sunday September 29, 2013 at 2:00pm.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Loudoun Abused Woman’s Shelter, 105 East Market St Leesburg, VA 20176, in memory of Dene Hill.

John Ahrens ~ Class of 1970

The definition of “surreal” is “unreal, unearthly, dreamlike”. John Cory Ahrens passed away on Saturday 8/17, age 67, after a brave fight with a deadly form of brain cancer. A man who only half a year ago on March 1 celebrated mom’s 91st birthday with the family at the Crow’s Nest restaurant with a view of the ocean, is now no longer with us. How can a healthy person now be gone, where one can only see him, touch him now, in the flatness of a photograph, no longer hear his sardonic comments or hike with him through the forests of the Sierras? Who visited mom regularly, laying on her couch with his feet hanging over the side, playing Sinatra on his phone for her which made mom so happy?
