Glenn  R. Dutch Duarte ~ Class of 1969

Glenn  R. Dutch Duarte ~ Class of 1969

Departed ~ 2/10/2013 ~ Heart Failure

GLENN DUARTE OBITUARY
Glenn “Dutch” R. Duarte

It comes with great lament to announce an abrupt end to the venerable life of Glenn R. “Dutch” Duarte (July 20, 1951 – February 10, 2013), resident of Seattle and Redmond, Washington. Dutch is survived by many who loved him; amongst them are his wife, Carol, his two sons, Garrett and Brett, his parents, Richard and Agnes, and his siblings Debbie, Diane, Donna and Gayle. Dutch’s passing occurred while traveling and consulting in Bangkok, Thailand. It was a place that was close to his heart, having graduated high school in 1969 from the International School of Bangkok, and having held a directorship position at D I Designs Corporation there in recent years.

A successful architect with many local ties to the Pacific Northwest, Dutch was president of Duarte Bryant and Ambia Architecture, headquartered in Seattle’s Pioneer Square. He held a great appreciation for design, and was an advocate for historic preservation. Having earned his degree in architecture from Washington State University, Dutch and his wife remained avid WSU Cougar fans and supporters.

Born in Honolulu, Dutch held many great memories of his family and his upbringing in Hawaii. He was proud to carry the state identification card, for reasons more profound than his satisfaction in receiving the Kama’aina rate. He returned often, and he planned to maintain his connection with Hawaii throughout his retirement. Dutch was also an avid collector, and his childhood influences on the island contributed to his eclectic character.

A remembrance will be held at a later date. Dearest Dutch: You are greatly missed.

Peter Dilks ~ Class of 1965

Departed ~ 2000

Note: I was unable to locate a good picture for Peter and so I am having to use the group pictures from the 6th grade 1959 Erawan and screen shots from 60 and 61 Erawans.  David Wilkerson

Brien Levy ISB ’64 writes:

Peter Dilks arrived in Bangkok the same week in March of 1957 as my brother, Geoff, and I. We were staying at the ancient, even then, Park Hotel, the best place a twelve-year-old could be his first month in BKK, and Pete was staying at the hotel next to it — I believe it was called the American Club. Ritchey Steckle and Susan Gowans arrived the same week, if you recall them. Anyway, Geoff and I remained friends with Peter, as he was known then, and shared a number of adventures unique to Bangkok and teenagers. We left in ’60 and Pete’s family remained for many years.

I located Pete on the Internet in ’98 and in ’99 Geoff and I fulfilled a long held desire to do a continental three-sixty on our motorcycles. We left SC on a Saturday and arrived at Pete’s place in Oakland, CA on Friday. As we were getting off our bikes at the base of a retaining wall for Pete’s yard, we heard a voice above say: “The Levy boys, I presume.” We looked up to see Pete sitting in the grass next to three ice-cold Singha beers. We’d planned to stay one night and stayed two. It was as if time had not separated us for 39 years and we planned to get together again soon.

Sadly, Pete’s lovely wife, Patty, called a few months later to say Pete had died instantly after suffering a massive stroke upon completing a jog on his favorite route.

Obituary

On 5 November 2019 Kathy passed away. She is with Love, free, at peace and at Home. She was my love and companion for over 38 years, my wife and mother of my children for over 30 years, my favorite grandmother for over 6 years. I am so thankful for every moment with her; the great and the not so great.

Kathy was preceded Home by her father, LTC Ret. James Hensley and mother, Sally, and grandson, Joshua. Kathy loved being a nurse because she loved caring for people. Caring was her love language. She was a caregiver who devoted her life to others. She was a woman in love with Jesus first, her family second, her country third and all of humanity. She strove to see the best in a fallen people while holding fast to a belief in Father’s plan for all. She raised two wonderful children who are well rounded, well- grounded and destined for great things of their own. Now those children have families of their own. Great families that Kathy cared for with a ferocious love of motherhood.

I am eternally grateful for just one day with Kathy in my life, more so for the nearly four decades together. She ran her race so very well. Rest well.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, November 7 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 EST on Friday, November 8 in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
