Carol Willis Strahan LUBBOCK-Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Carol Willis Strahan, RN, MSN, CCRN and CEN, of Lubbock, at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers with a time of visiting and sharing one hour before and after the service. Our beloved Carol went to be with the Lord on Oct. 13, 2012, at the age of 56. Carol was born Oct. 28, 1955, to Harlan and Fannie Jo (Hester) Willis in Sasebo, Japan. She graduated high school from the International School of Bangkok. Carol received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s degree from LCU. Carol was a registered nurse and was employed as an instructor by Texas Tech Health Science Center, where she greatly loved her students. She married the love of her life, Wesley Strahan, on Sept. 27, 1991, and Dr. Strahan preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2011. Carol was a member of the Iota Mu chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau honor nursing society. She was vitally involved in many community pursuits, including the Friends in Training triathlon group, and was the nursing director of the Half Ironman medical tent. She was a member of Lake Ridge United Methodist Church. Carol is survived by her parents, Harlan and Jo of Lubbock; two sisters, Kaye Miller and husband Mark of Little Rock, Ark., and Robin Wood and husband Andy of Lubbock; a brother, Paul Willis and wife Sarah of Amarillo; five nieces; three nephews; and numerous great-nieces, nephews and cousins. Desho Bernard ~ Class of 1992

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Desho Bernard, ISB Class of 1992. A unique, athletic and talented individual, Desho will be remembered with love by his family and many friends around the planet. A locally renowned assistant film director with many credits to his name, he leaves his wife, two children, family and friends with a plethora of beautiful memories.

For those of you in Bangkok, the Cremation will be held at 17:00pm on Tuesday, August 25 at Wat Yang (Temple) Onnut 23, Onnut Rd, Srisawat Building, Bangkok. As per request, no wreaths please. Additionally, if you do plan on attending, there’s a suggestion that colorful attire would be most appropriate. [please note the time change to 5pm]

May he rest in peace. (ISB Alum)

GARY’S OBITUARY

Gary Dean Lindsay passed away unexpectedly on August 3. Always the life of the party, he spent the day prior singing show tunes from the musical “Hamilton” and dancing with the home health aides caring for his mother in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was 65 years old.

Gary lived a full and adventurous life. He was born in Topeka, Kansas. He spent much of his early life in Bangkok, Thailand, where his father, Robert Lindsay, worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. After graduating from the International School of Bangkok, he moved to California to attend Pomona College and graduated in 1977 with a degree in Linguistics. He spoke German, Russian, some Malay and could stumble through some Thai. He served as the Vice Consul at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and later at the U.S. embassy in Moscow. After returning to the U.S. to earn his MBA at University of California – Berkeley, he met Mark Foehringer in 1999. He and Mark married in 2011, as soon as marriage equality became legal in New York. They were the first same sex couple to be married in Tarrytown, NY.

Gary was funny, loyal and loving. He loved music, theater and especially dance. He was integral to the management of Mark’s dance company, Mark Foehringer Dance Project|SF, where he held the position of treasurer. He wore many other hats for the company and was its number one fan and supporter. Gary was also a member of the congregation of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley, where he supported the church’s music program, served in the altar guild and volunteered regularly for just about anything the community needed.

He was a loyal and devoted son to his parents, Robert and Louise. He is survived by his beloved husband, Mark; his mother Louise Spencer Lindsay; his brother Ken and sister-in-law Madalin; Mark’s 4 siblings, Mary, Lois, Paul and Ruth and their spouses; and many cousins; as well as 12 nieces and nephews; 10 grand nieces and nephews and more friends than anyone can count. He was one of a kind. He is irreplaceable and will be loved, remembered and missed.

A memorial will be held in spring in both Chillicothe and Berkeley as soon as it is safe to hold gatherings.

James Robert Yancey ~ Class of 1975

James, my brother, passed away at my home on August 22, 2017  at 10:30 am while the hospice nurse was in his attendance. He had fought Pancreatic cancer for almost 3 years with Met to his liver until chemo was no longer effective and he developed a back pain that the VA was unable to diagnose and treat but was given pain medication.

He had served in various branches of the military as well as in the reserves…and last worked at the FAA before becoming ill. He will be greatly missed.

James Robert Yancey is to be buried on Thursday September 6 at 1pm with Honors at the Quantico National Military cemetery in Virginia.

Rose Anne Yancey, latter at American School of Paris and Bruxelles Belgium University, passed in 2015 , in California, from cancer, diagnosed at the last minute near death, and managed to survive almost 3 years until it metastasized  to the brain as a tumor.

GOSHEN – Heidi Siemens-Rhodes, 38, died at her home Sunday evening after living nine months knowing her diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.. She was born June 24, 1974 in Sacramento, CA to Mark and Jan (Lautt) Siemens. She married Mitch Siemens-Rhodes Aug. 3, 1996 in Kalona, IA. He survives.. Also surviving are three children, Theodore Kazuo, Adam Hae and Ira Khalil; her mother, Jan Siemens, Goshen; and a brother, Brad Siemens (married to Andrea Martin), Portland, OR.. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Willa Esperanza; and her father, Mark Siemens.. Heidi spent the first three years of her life in Sacramento before moving to Jerusalem, where her parents worked for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) from 1977-82. The family moved to Fresno, CA from 82-89 and to Bangkok, Thailand, 1989-92, where they worked again for MCC.. The 1992 valedictorian of International School Bangkok, she studied at Goshen College, graduating in 1996 with majors in chemistry, biology and secondary education and minors in French and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).. She taught English in Japan from 1997 to 2000, and from 2000 to 2002 she lived in Iowa, where she taught a semester at Iowa Mennonite School and taught English as a second language to adults in Iowa City.. The family moved to the Goshen area in 2002, and she studied at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary until graduating with a Master’s of Divinity in 2005. From 2006 to 2008 she worked part time at Goshen Public Library and wrote Gather ‘Round Sunday school curriculum for Brethren Press. From 2008 until her death, Heidi served as pastor at Assembly Mennonite Church, where she was ordained in 2011 and truly found her life’s calling in a community that deeply cherished her. She also served on the Goshen Day Care Board for Walnut Hill Early Childhood Center.. Friends may call from 1 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Assembly Mennonite Church, 1201 S. 11th Street, Goshen. Viewing may also occur one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Saturday funeral service at College Mennonite Church. The pastoral team of Bethany Swope, Karl Shelly and Carmen Horst will officiate.. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, to Walnut Hill Early Childhood Center, or to a fund at Assembly Mennonite Church for her children’s education.. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Obituary

Kang-Tze “Ken” Wu, age 79, of Tucker, GA, peacefully passed away Saturday May 30, 2020.

Funeral services for Ken will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory with Rev. Brendon Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Georgia Memorial Park, Marietta, GA. The family will gather at the funeral home with friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Ken was born on March 27, 1941 in Tianjin, China to the late Ta-Yeh Wu and the late Teng Shu-Hsien. He loved reading, enjoyed learning about Military History and Science Fiction.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Tze-Hui Wu; son and daughter-in-law, Ethan Wu and Janis Lee; daughter, Cynthia Wu; grandchildren, Jeremy Wu and Ezra Wu; brothers, Tony Wu and Seth Wu.
